People Compass

LynQ

Ever lose track of someone you care about in a large crowd or remote area? Mobile phones can help, but they have their limitations. What if there was a dedicated device that told you how far and in what direction the other person was located? And what if that device required no monthly fees?

That’s the promise of LynQ. After selling more than 20,000 units totaling $1.7 million in presales on Indiegogo, LynQ announced at CES that it is now commercially shipping.

“We’ve all been in a situation where we are trying to find or stay connected with a friend, family member, or colleague in a crowded space or during an off-the-grid activity, but our phones, apps, and trackers that require a signal that just doesn’t work,” said Karina Costa, President of LynQ.

The LynQ features an intuitive compass-like display that allows people to see their distance and direction from each other, keeping groups of people together even when other technology fails. It allows groups of up to 12 to find each other across miles without the need for phones, apps, subscription fees, or reliance on cellphone networks.

The weather-proof clip-on device uses proprietary software to display each users’ distance and direction from each other in real-time. And it allows for tens of thousands of devices to work in the same vicinity.

According to the company, LynQ can be set up in seconds, pairing devices and entering names using a one-button interface. A simple click allows users to move between their group members, displaying a user’s name, arrow, and distance on a backlit and glare-protected screen.

Users can also set boundaries for their group. They can receive sound, optical, and vibration alerts the instant someone leaves the safe zone. That makes it a good fit for young kids, pets, and those with special needs, such as Alzheimer’s. In addition, a “homebase” (i.e. base camp, car, ski lift, or hotel) can be set as an anchor for everyone to find each other.

LynQ is currently available in packs of two ($249), three ($369), four ($479), and five ($589), Add-on units are $149 each.
